A Sandwich a Day: Turkey Club at The Anthem

The Anthemis a sports bar that has no qualms with being a sports bar. The TVs are huge, the beer list is long, and the bulk of the menu is divided into "Things" and "Sandwich Things." Don't look for surprises. Along with a burger, you can score such ubiquitous bar standards as a Philly cheesesteak and a grilled cheese. I somehow end up with theturkey club($10), mostly due to an enthusiastic push by the waitress. This happened even though I don't particularly care for the sandwich.
The flaw with most turkey clubs is also the same thing that makes them so unique: that third slice of bread. After biting through that many layers, it is no surprise most clubs end up tasting dry and bland. They certainly look cool, but that's about it. But The Anthem solves this problem by making sure each slice of bread is absolutely bathed in butter before being toasted. The last thing you can say about this sandwich is that it's dry. Over-loaded, out of control, and gargantuan—sure. Still, I'm not proud of the fact that I polished this whole thing off, plus all those waffles fries. But considering my original apprehension, eating the whole thing is kind of a compliment.
