Paladoris a rum bar—it says so right on the ceiling. And no, I was not flat on my back after spending too much time sampling the impressive list. I was just there for a harmless booze-free lunch, and it's easy to get caught up looking around this space. From what I can discern, the guitars hung from the ceiling in the front mean party, while the row of random chandeliers in the back mean business (just a guess).

I was there forThe Fidel($7.95), a braised pork sandwich topped with what is called "Cuban BBQ sauce." It looks like a mess, but one bite reveals what a carefully constructed creation this sandwich really is. The pulled pork is tender but not mushy, and the sauce is tangy and tart. But what you can't see is the layer of fried plantain under the bun, which adds sweetness to counteract the barbecue sauce. Add to that some sharp chopped onions, and this is one impressive sandwich.
