Sugar Rush: Butterscotch Pudding at The Chocolate Room

AtThe Chocolate Roomin Brooklyn, chocolate features prominently in only one of my favorite desserts—theirChocolate Cake. But my other favorite is theBlack Bottom Butterscotch Custard($7.50), a cool and surprisingly light dessert of housemade creamy butterscotch custard. It's almost possible to pick out individual notes of caramelized melted brown sugar and butter. At the base is a layer of silky bittersweet chocolate, like a cross between free-flowing hot fudge and a rich ganache. A dollop of fresh coconut whipped cream to top, and a paper thin cocoa-y chocolate wafer—one that's good enough to be a stand-alone dessert.
