Scenes from the New York Pizza Show
As you may know, pizza trade journalPizza Marketing Quarterlyheld itsNew York Pizza Showearlier this month. Unfortunately, Slice was unable to attend.PMQhad sent us some passes to the show and we didn't want them to go to waste, so gave them to reader David Dunlop and asked him to take a few photos if possible. His photos are above, and here's what he had to say about the show:
So I went, and, as anticipated, it was very owner/operator oriented. Lots of booths touting things from marketing companies (mascots, car toppers, flashing LED things) to ingredients such as cheese, meats, and flour to bags and boxes ortrucks with heated compartmentsfor delivery.
Of coarse there were a few ovens being displayed, including rotating ovens, conveyor ovens, and one that looked like a simulated wood oven. There were some other wing-, gelato-, and pasta-related things as well.
there was a dough-stretching competition going on while I was there. The dough looked worse for the wearfrayed around the edges and holesand even caused one competitor to quit and part with the words, "This dough is an embarrassment to the pizza community." Most of the competitors that I saw were from Ohio, but there was a traveling Italian freestyle pizza team there. WABC-7 and WB11 were covering the event.
Unfortunately, I didn't turn on my camera flash, so the pictures I took are blurry. These two are the best.
Hey: No problem, David. These photos are better than any of the photos (i.e., none) that Slice took, and you can sort of imagine what the show was like by looking at them.
Speaking of the pizza show,NPRdid a piece on it on November 06. You can listen to that here:Pizza Goes Back to Its Roots
